Spring is Almost Here

Snowdrops along Barnsbury Road

Snowdrops along Barnsbury Road

It’s been a very wet winter, endless rain – a deluge that has left the park soggy and a bit forlorn. All is not bleak in Barnard Park. There are bright spots of bright flowers emerging throughout the park that point to spring. Yellow daffs and multi-colour crocus have sprouted up all over with more to come. The real transformation is happening along Barnsbury Road where volunteer gardeners last year planted hundreds of bulbs and plants with funding from Greenspace, the park department, and Islington Council. Bright yellow crocus circle the base of more than twenty lime trees. White flowered hellebores are blooming in the 100-metre plus border along Barnsbury Road. There is one especially lovely spot near the north gate on Barnsbury Road where clumps of white snowdrops have raised their heads.
