It has been a great summer this year in Barnard Park. In parks, it’s all about the weather and this summer sunshine and warm temperatures made the park the place to be. Early in the season, the weather was perfect for the park’s pop-up Sundays allowing park-goers to enjoy performances, play cricket and taste ice cream. When the temperatures soared in July, children packed the playground cooling down in its ever-popular water feature. The Adventure Playground and the One O’Clock Club provided holiday fun for children. People sunbathed, picnicked, barbecued and exercised. Apples ripened on the tree near the playground entrance. Much-loved orange roses, cared for by volunteer gardeners, bloomed under lime trees next to Barnsbury Road. Then there were special moments: morning violin serenades at the One O’Clock Club, tight-rope walking at sunset and the sight of a massive horizontal kite high in the sky above the park.
