Hockey Hits the Park on Sunday

Lively informal game of locals of all ages

Competition was fierce on the 1st of July when an assortment of locals crashed together to play “knock about” hockey. Everyone was welcome, with players ranging from tottering three-year olds to fit and sprightly seventy-somethings. After some preliminary warm-ups in passing, dribbling and shooting for the younger players, organised by the energetic ally enthusiastic Amanda Gallagher and Giles Slinger, the players were ready to take to the field proper.

Teams were identified by their red or black sticks which were brandished around the pitch with serious intent. The supporters cheered from behind homemade cakes and Suzanna’s delicious ice-creams while children taking time off the field occupied themselves with cup-cake decorating aided by Alex and Lis. The café’s bake sale raised over £90 which will go straight to the Barnard Park regeneration fund.  A jolly day for all, despite the overcast weather!
