Barnard Park Wins Islington in Bloom Award

Congrats Community Gardeners!

All the work by the community gardeners in Barnard Park has borne fruit. The park has received a finalist award in Islington in Bloom, which will be presented on Oct 10 at the Islington Assembly Hall. The park won in the category for the Best Residential Communal Garden – that is, a communal garden which is adjacent to a number of flats or houses and is maintained by residents of those flats or houses’.  We’re now not sure whether the park came first, second or third place but we’re thrilled. It’s not so long ago when there were doubts that any plants would survive in the neglected space. The situation has changed for the better. Now the park blooms – officially. The herb garden in the children’s playground must have wowed the judges. We share the credit with St Andrew’s School Green Team, who help us tend the plants in the playground. Go Green Team!  Also congratulations the many volunteers gardeners who lend a hand in our community gardening sessions.
