Park plan stalled for further consideration of football pitch

The plan to improve Barnard Park was deferred in July at an Islington planning committee meeting. Although it received a positive planning report, the plan has been held for further consideration of football provision.

The deferred plan is to be considered again on a date not yet set. The Friends of Barnard Park along with local people continue to support the proposal which provides a versatile park for all user groups. The deferred plan provides a modern 7-a-side football pitch. We will lobby hard for as much free play as possible for community groups.

The plan also includes a large, flat grass area that can be used informally for team sports as well as other recreational activities. The space can flexibly be marked out for football, badminton or touch rugby.  The new network of paths provides a running track and better access for disabled but also much improved circulation in a poorly laid out park. The size and position of the pitch also allows a view through the park, important for visibility and security.
