Park Proposal at July 18 Planning Meeting

New pitch, village green, seating hub

Support the plan for Barnard Park with a new pitch, village green, seating hub. Make it happen!

The application to regenerate Barnard Park will be considered in a planning committee meeting on Monday July 18 at starting 7:30pm at Islington Town Hall on Upper Street. The application is for Phase One of the Barnard Park scheme shown above. PLEASE support the plan by attending the meeting. The Council is solidly behind the locally generated plan but it is being opposed by Sport England, who want a sports ground, which would suit a single user group. Arsenal continues to press for this result.

The Friends of Barnard Park support the proposed plan which is creative, in scale with the landscape and to be executed on a relatively small budget. It provides a new 3G pitch with a modern astro-turf surface. While the provision for formal sports has been reduced in size, it’s greatly improved and will be used more. A new village green will create more space for informal sport and play for children. The new resurfaced paths will provide a good surface for runners and the disabled. The plan, taking advantage of the park’s slopes and wide open skies, will also make a lovely park.

So join us at the meeting – the planning committee will ask for a show of hands for support. Also there is still time to send in a comment of support to planning at Nathaniel.Baker@islington.gov.uk. It won’t be included in the Council planning report which is already out PRESS HERE for the link. But the number of new comments will be announced to Councillors on the night before they vote.
